Native Banners

Native ad format with editorial-styled units that escape banner-blindness. Right answer when popunder is wrong — finance, crypto, SaaS, considered offers.

What it actually is

A unit rendered with the host page’s fonts, colors, and editorial grid — designed to look like a content recommendation block, not a banner. CTRs run higher than IAB display because the creative escapes banner-blindness, not because the format is intrinsically better. The honest framing: native pays publishers more than display ROS would on the same impression, and converts better for advertisers with offers that need a paragraph of context above the click.

This is the one format I refuse to write hype about from personal experience. I never ran native at scale inside PropellerAds — popunder and push were the book. What I can say from the buyer side: when one of my old clients moved a finance offer off popunder onto native via Adsterra in late 2024, the click-through dropped 60% but the deposit-to-click rate jumped roughly 3×.

Why it works for the right offers

  • Customisable size, colors, fonts to match the publisher’s editorial template — done well, the unit reads as content
  • Mobile and desktop, behaviour responsive
  • Pairs cleanly with popunder or in-page push on the same page without burning the audience
  • Lower banner-blindness than IAB display, materially so on content-heavy pages

Best for

  • Editorial publishers (news, blog, magazine) where the unit can mimic article cards
  • Offers that need consideration: finance, crypto exchanges, SaaS trials, anything where the user must read before clicking
  • Verticals where popunder converts poorly because the landing page is too dense for an unprimed click
  • Markets where adblock penetration is high and you need a unit that survives most blocklists

What it is not

Native is not where iGaming deposit-bonus offers live. The audience reading a news article isn’t in deposit-funnel headspace, and the editorial creative slows down the impulse-friction click that popunder buys cheaply. If your conversion is “land + deposit in under 90 seconds,” popunder wins. If your conversion is “land + read + trial signup three days later,” native does the work.

Specs

  • Pricing models: CPM and CPC. CPC dominates for content-recommendation buying
  • Devices: Mobile and desktop. Mobile native units render inside article scroll, desktop typically as sidebar or end-of-article blocks
  • GEO coverage: 240+ countries
  • Anti-fraud: Multi-layer filtering plus ML scoring on each impression. Native has the lowest bot-fraud rate of the formats here — bots don’t read articles for cover, mostly because the publishers running native tend to have higher editorial standards in the first place
